Feeling frustrated with your body? Discover a different conversation through EFT Tapping.

We spend a lot of time asking our bodies to be different.
We want our bodies to:
• have more energy
• sleep better
• hurt less
• be stronger
• remember things more easily
• lose weight
• age well
• feel comfortable in our own skin.
Can you relate to any of those?
There's nothing wrong with wanting those things, but it can mean we spend far more time noticing what our body isn't doing than appreciating everything it is.
It's very easy to see our body as the problem.
One thing I've noticed over many years of working with people... When we stop seeing our body as something to fight, and start becoming curious about what it might be trying to tell us, something often begins to shift.
That doesn't mean every physical symptom has an emotional cause, and it certainly doesn't mean we shouldn't seek appropriate medical advice or treatment. Our bodies are incredibly complex. But most of us have experienced the connection between our emotions and our physical wellbeing. We've all had butterflies before an interview, tension in our shoulders after a stressful week or struggled to sleep because our mind wouldn't switch off.
Our minds and bodies are constantly communicating with one another.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), often known as Tapping, offers a gentle way to connect mind and body.
Rather than battling against your body, what would it be like to start listening to it with curiosity and compassion?
One of the things I love about EFT is that you don't need to have a diagnosed medical condition to benefit from it (although you should always consult a doctor with physical problems you are concerned about!).
You might choose to tap on something that hurts, something that frustrates you, something you'd like to improve or simply an aspect of your physical wellbeing you'd like to optimise.
That might be:
Sometimes it's not obvious where to start.

Recently, I led a group tapping session for EFT practitioners on the theme of physical wellbeing.
Everyone came with something different.
Some chose chronic health conditions. Others focused on sleep, body confidence, energy levels or public speaking because they noticed how much it affected them physically. The starting points were different, but one thing stood out.
Over many years of doing this work, I've seen people naturally describe what's happening in their body using images rather than medical terms.
This session was no different.
People described dark caves, blocked pathways, stale air, murky water and feeling weighed down. Others noticed heaviness, shaking, shrinking or feeling stuck.
I never ask people to imagine these things.
They simply emerge.
It's something I've seen time and time again.
As the session continued, those images gradually evolved. The dark cave became lit by a shaft of golden light. Murky water became flowing water. Fresh mountain air replaced stale air. Green shoots appeared where there had previously been darkness. Words like hopeful, lighter, calmer and grounded started to replace stuck, hopeless and frustrated.
We weren't trying to replace the difficult images with positive ones. They simply evolved as people continued tapping.
It's interesting how often this happens. Sometimes a sensation, an image or a feeling can reveal another piece of the puzzle. And sometimes, simply giving those sensations our attention is enough for something to begin shifting.

When we're in pain or feeling frustrated with our body, it's natural to want the discomfort to disappear as quickly as possible.
I've been there too.
But over the years, I've found it much more helpful to become curious than critical.
Instead of asking, "How do I get rid of this?"
ask, "What is my body trying to communicate?"
You may not know the answer straight away. That's okay.
Sometimes simply becoming curious is the first step.
The answer isn't always obvious.
Sometimes there's no immediate answer at all.
But asking the question changes the relationship.
Instead of fighting your body, you're beginning to be curious about it and start listening…
If you've never tried EFT before, I'd love to invite you to experience it for yourself.
This is just a taster. A few minutes to help you start to create a new connection with your body.
In a one-to-one session, or during an EFT training, we would spend much more time exploring your unique experience. We'd be curious about your story, the emotions connected with it, the beliefs you've developed over the years and the meanings you've attached to what's happening.
This short tapping round is simply somewhere to start.
As you tap gently on each point, notice whatever you become aware of. There is no right or wrong. You don't have to force anything to happen. If the Tapping statements don’t match how you are feeling, simply change them to match what is true for you.
On a scale from 0–10, how intense does this feel right now? You might be measuring the physical sensation itself, your emotional reaction to it, or both. Just go with whatever feels most relevant for you.

On a scale from 0 to 10, how intense does this feel now?
Some people notice the physical sensation changing first. Others notice that the emotional intensity changes before the body catches up. Both are useful to notice.
Notice whether anything feels different.
Perhaps nothing has changed.
Perhaps something feels a little lighter.
Perhaps you've simply become more aware of what your body has been trying to communicate.
If nothing seems to have changed yet, don't worry. There are lots of ways we can adapt EFT, but they're beyond the scope of this blog. If you'd like to explore further:

One of the things I love about EFT is that every session is different.
Sometimes people notice physical sensations changing.
Sometimes emotions surface that they hadn't connected with the issue before.
Sometimes an old memory appears that suddenly helps everything make sense.
Sometimes nothing obvious happens during the tapping, but people notice changes later that day or over the following week.
There's no single "right" way for EFT to work.
What I've learned over the years is that curiosity nearly always opens more doors than criticism.
The short tapping process you've just experienced is only a tiny glimpse of what's possible.
In a full EFT session we gently explore your unique experience, following the clues your mind and body offer. It's often those small details—the words you use, the sensations you notice, the images that appear—that reveal another piece of the puzzle.
Every person is different. Every story is different. That's why EFT is never about following a script.
It's about meeting you exactly where you are.
Next time your body gets your attention, pause for a moment before trying to silence it.
Ask yourself: "What might my body be trying to tell me?"
You may not know the answer straight away. That's okay.
Sometimes simply becoming curious is the first step.
